Filthy Rich Writer Review

As some of you know, I signed up for a copywriting course several months ago (March 2023) with the hopes of launching my own copywriting business. (What is copywriting, you may ask? Any writing—or copy—that is designed to persuade or sell. Copy is designed to move people toward action, while content educates and informs.) I’ve begun this copywriting journey in the hopes of using my passion and skill for writing to contribute to our family’s income—and give me a creative outlet.

I’ve nearly completed the course, am starting to build my portfolio, and plan to launch website soon. It has been increasingly life-giving to learn and practice a new skill—something that’s different from my daily “homemaker” tasks. It’s also been exciting to start dreaming of how I could help local businesses, solopreneurs, etc., through helping with their copy needs and thereby increasing visibility/reach/sales!

Here is my review from the program I’ve been working through, titled Filthy Rich Writer (if you’re interested why the founder chose this name for her company, check out this link! Or, sign up to view their new, FREE video training!

Review of Filthy Rich Writer, aka the Comprehensive Copywriting Academy (CCA):

What it is:

An incredibly thorough course + community that provides the training and accountability to learn a new career—copywriting.

  • Life time access to many resources, including…
    • pre-recorded, watch-at-your-own-pace videos (these are called the “core training”), broken up by module/topic and then by lesson. These lead you through all aspects of copywriting that you need to know to launch your own business—everything from designing banner ads to developing a success mindset to working with a graphic designer to pricing your service.
    • Plenty of bonus courses with targeted content (I still am working my way through these!)
    • Monthly live zooms with either the founder of Filthy Rich Writer or one of the copy coaches; all these are pre-recorded so can be accessed and replayed later
    • Facebook community for support and feedback

What I’ve enjoyed:

  • Well-organized course that makes it easy to move through at your own pace
  • Easy to squeeze some kind of training in even when I’m not able to sit down and take notes (which I always try to do with the core training videos) The multiple ways to interact with content include
    • Podcast (these often include interviews with current CCA students which I find very inspiring)
  • Re-play of past zoom meetings, including portfolio reviews
  • Amazing positivity, support, and motivation through the Facebook community
    • All the feedback is so positive—even when people offer critiques, it always feels like it’s given in a “soft-served”—i.e., it’s just the expectation that you will be more encouraging than not, and will always couch and constructive criticism with words of encouragement.
  • Opportunity to immediately apply learned skills—and get feedback!
    • I love that most videos in the CCA core training have “action sheets” attached where you are provided with a creative brief for a fake (or real) company and asked to write some kind of copy for a fake (or real) product. Once you’ve completed the worksheet, you can post it to the Facebook community and get feedback from other students and/or coaches.

What I’ve disliked:

  • Nothing, really. Sometimes I get tired listening to the same person (the founder) talking in all of the videos and most of the podcast episodes, haha! –but that’s not even a legit critique (I get tired of things easily 😉 ).

Why I chose this program:

I had looked into a couple other copywriting courses before choosing this one (one of the programs I checked out had multiple grammatical errors on their website, which was not very confidence-inspiring :/ ) but after listening to several podcast episodes from the Filthy Rich Writer podcast and doing more research, I went with this program for the following reasons:

I was impressed with the value of the program, including the thoroughness of the training and ongoing support from the Facebook group

I was impressed with the thoroughness/comprehensiveness of the training, the support of the Facebook group, the professionalism of the program/website, and the level-headedness of the program’s founder—i.e.., not making grand claims of how much money you’d be guaranteed to make with the program, but rather an emphasis on that if you put in the work, the program would work for you. Aka, not a spam.

Definitely ask me any questions you may have, and please reach out if you or someone you know could use a copywriter to help their business increase sales through direct mail, Facebook ads, sales pages, etc. (I’ll be launching a separate website for that, soon).
